As the title suggests, this news article series aim to promote wonderful aspects of the deviantART community, from showcasing beautiful works of art, to informing you of great groups, and to interviewing inspirational deviants. I feel so happy being part of such a wonderful community and I hope to make it better, even if it's only a little bit, by making these articles. My goal is to bring to light everything that impassions me and, hopefully, inspire you!

:squee:  Showcasing Lovely Literature :squee:

=======================================================

Here I will showcase literature that has motivated & moved me from all genres, from prose, poetry, flash fiction, short stores, etc.

Gardenia Lily.I'll paint you only one picture of her,
Gardenia Lily.  I will never mix
My colors well enough to make you see
Olive skin, lips like linen, green eyes fix
Upon naked summer, rhymeless and pure:

She was contradict in most things
    and that was her beauty
  She was a capricious Capricorn,
    capriciously borne of
      some necessity, God knows.

She was knee deep in water
    swarming with minnows
She was sure she was dreaming
    screaming through branches low
      sunshine wind blow, studious
of the silhouette
of her own brunette
  in the ripples.
New Years Day, 20 years old  ,  REVELATION

  subtle nipples
on her breasts.
Invisible breath
  in the humid steam,

Zebra Girl"It's interesting the way people present their plumage," she says,
jealousy in her eyes as she watches the girl in the
killer heels, killer dress,
lavender and fuchsia peonies printed across silk
moving with her every shimmer, leaving her
naked to the hungry eyes
of the men, husbands included.
"Perhaps she needs it to feel secure" I say
quietly, knowing it's the wrong thing, though
really, nothing could be right.
She's determined to be angry,
trying to pretend it doesn't scare her
underneath it all, underneath the scorn,
veil ripped aside:
white skin flashing, the girl walks,
x-rated dreams in the men's gazes,
youth so far away from the rest of us, the
zebra girl dancing amongst the jackals.

IllusionRosemary, twine.
And she holds them close to fly away
on rooftops, drifting drunken wheels.
And curled around her, seeking warmth,
is smokey hair and longer-stains
beneath her baby-orphaned blues.
His lips carry sound
like it is newborn, sleep.
Slips fingers on his old guitar,
smiles sugar on cement.
He is forever desire,
and is like dust and wind:
His body gone
and chasing dawn
and never, ever, dawn forever.
:thumb255976776: InfluenceFrom the hollow between havings
there is a heaving; tack of sound
against tick of time and I am sailing
towards stranger you. In a mutual possession,
inside of me it is your ghost growing.
To the answer
there is no access, but
the question is a flourishing
that we'll call freedom.
Into bloom
there was the first break of empty space.
Towards believing
there was the first breath of being
here and now:
"Love, and see God"
between our hearts and the stars
there is a missing link
that knows our marring
makes. I am sailing towards you
in a mutual possession
, in the sky
there is a last love looming,
escaping
into me and out of me
as we break and are breaking
there is our intimacy. Love,
in a mutual in flowing of freedom.

:thumb259607852: Empty SidewalksHer caramel complexion
was the perfect companion hue
to the cinnamon-bronze car.
She was hunched, headscarf
paralleling the curve
of the window, shoulders shielding
her infant: a curled
semi-colon wrapped in her arms.
Her eyes were
the color of wet sidewalks,
and as empty
as the night streets.
Dream Disease. You be the building and I'll be the fire.
She'll be the one on the funeral pyre.
All night and day I will dance around you
and climb you, as I try to escape these
twirling images.  At the moment I no longer
want to deal with these words that drip
like blood, each one a little city etched
with a smoky memory or two of something
mildly to severely traumatic.  Sometimes I
just don't want to wake up to a face, I want
to wake up to birds chirping and being blown up
by shotguns and songs about big black rivers, a
paisley haze.  Every day I grow more tired of
your tiredness, of your wavering abjection, of
the way you and your country try to suppress it all
with drugs, staving off dreams like they are disease.

Gallows Tea PartyYou drink lightly from a chipped mug, the steam curling around your fingers and forming nearly translucent rings around your knuckles.  The clear smoke continues up creamy skin, until around your neck it forms a noose.  The illusion snaps as you lean forward and laugh.  Something unknown tickles your fancy, and right then I have no clue why your breezy giggles are warmer than my coffee.
This thoughtful gap in time is bridged around you, but still I can't seem to shake the cobweb shadows.  They form rose-tinted glasses that distort the world into something neat and tidy, something people can comprehend.  This tea shop, for example, is a false tradition started by dead hope and bloody tears, a sip of reality for the insane and shattered.  You always said they illuminated the world, but never specified dreams from normalcy.
My mind snaps back in focus from distant memories to see the chipped mug gone, and you staring at me with b
things that occur to meI could stop the car. I could imagine you haven't yet departed. I could call you and ask when you'll be home, and should I just go in, and did you get that laundry done because I can finish it if not. You haven't been gone so long; maybe I wouldn't even notice what was missing.
I could step inside. I could imagine you haven't yet departed. I could excavate the spare key and ease open the door and breathe the familiar smell of mold, of rotting, beautiful old house. The hallways would be mine to roam; I might be a mischievous child again and pawing through your belongings while you're out grocery shopping.
I could find a bed. I could imagine you haven't yet departed. I could fall into the bed and instantly fall asleep and I could wake up in a parallel universe, the kind where only one thing is different. You'd be there when I wake up; you'd be making breakfast or reading a book but most importantly you'd be there, which is a much better place than where you are in this universe.
Instead,

:squee: Interview: lightpurge :squee:

=======================================================

Here I will interview an inspirational deviant I have picked or one suggested to me.

:hooray: :iconlightpurge: :hooray:

Name/Nickname?

From deviantART? I don’t really have one, maybe Avatar. I don’t really know why other than it being shorter than lightpurge. IRL? Joely.  :happybounce:

The story behind your username?

My username is really childish. ‘avatar’ is derived from Avatar: The Last Airbender, because when I first made my deviantART account back in September 2008, I was in love with that show. The ‘01’ is simply a number, because I couldn’t just put ‘avatar’. :lmao:

Tell us about yourself:

I’m 17 (18 next April), and I live in Australia!

At school, the subjects I do include Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Business, English and Maths B. Next year I plan on continuing my studies at University, doing a Bachelor of Science (Chemistry).

I have many interests including Anime, Gaming, Art and Music. I especially love Lady Gaga. She has changed my life. I love her music, I love her look and I love her moral views. I also like Rihanna, Adele and Ke$ha. My favourite Anime includes Naruto, Bleach, Fullmetal Alchemist and Death Note. My favourite video games are the Pokemon series, Final Fantasy series, well pretty much any Square Enix game.

How did you discover deviantART?

I discovered deviantART through chicken-on-a-chain (a RL friend). At first I just made an account because I thought it would be cool. I didn’t really get into deviantART until a year later. Here I am now, doing huge amounts of stamps and featuring a lot of art.

Specializes In:

I wouldn’t say I specialize in anything, but I do have an obvious interest in deviant Stamps. People may say “Stamps aren’t art”, but it takes a lot of imagination in terms of colour use, textures, placement of text and small details that make the stamp that much better. I also do devious Suggestions, although I haven’t done one for a while. Apart from these two, I have tried pixel art, emoticons, digital art, traditional art, photography, literature and buttons.

Your Personal Favorite(s) From Your Gallery:

Yuyi - Lady Gaga Ego. by lightpurge Talented Artist, No DD Stamp by lightpurge
These two would have to be my favourite. The first one is Lady Gaga as her alter ego, Yuyi. It’s just a fun stamp, and I think the colours work well together. The second one has a great message. ”Not having a Daily Deviation doesn’t mean you’re not a talented artist.” There will always be some great art that doesn’t get a Daily Deviation, but that doesn’t mean the artist isn’t talented. It gets me down when some deviants get upset about ‘not having a Daily Deviation’. DDs are overrated, and featured DDs don’t necessarily mean they are the best.

Favorite Inspirational Deviant:

There’s one person that truly got me into deviantART. SparkLum. He taught me so much about Stamps. I am who I am today because of him. There’s quite a few deviants that also give me inspiration. Deviants such as bradleysays, stuck-in-suburbia, jvsef, Mirz123, SanguineEpitaph, Endorell-Taelos, GinkgoWerkstatt, namenotrequired, litecrush, beauvoirian, OnionBlaze, Quolia and ClefairyKid.

What are your favorite aspects of deviantART?

I love the community. Majority of deviants are really good people, which is really rare when it comes to social networking sites. I think it’s because almost everyone on here has the same objective, to make art. I also love the news article feature. It gives a chance to showcase art to a broader community.

Where do you draw your inspiration from?

I draw my inspiration from other deviants, and what I see on this website. Once I see art, I always go “I want to make something like that”. I also try to incorporate my surroundings into my art.

How do you strive to further improve your work?

I improve my work by playing around with new ideas. I try to push the boundaries of what I have previously done. After working with stamps for so long, I’ve started to notice which colours go well together, and which ones don’t, and which shades complement each other. I just try different things. Some things work, some things don’t, it is all a part of learning.

Do you have any advice to fellow aspiring artists?

Just keep doing what you're doing. You'll never get anywhere if you just give up. Try new things, broaden your views toward art and you might find a new interest.
